We Ride Tomorrow!

We made the drive in about 9.5 hours then another hour and a half to return our rental car. Long day but we are excited to ride tomorrow. Weather is calling for 40% chance of thunderstorms, temps in the upper 60's and winds 5-10 mph.

I'm riding for Larry Nehasil, Livonia PD, EOW is 01-17-2011. Larry's wife and sister are also riding this year...haven't run into them as of yet.

I am also Deputy Keeper George W. Haight, Michigan Department of Corrections, EOW is 03-27-1893. Yes, 1893 is correct. Haight is believed to be the first corrections officer to be killed in the line of duty. MDOC officers worked hard this year and last to research and push through the necessary internal and external paperwork, research and requests to get CO Haight recognized. CO Haight's name had been engraved this year at the police memorial.

The blue bracelets pictured below commemorate and remind each rider of why they are riding and who they are riding for. The bracelets are given to the family or department members once we arrive in DC on May 12th.

(Sorry for the side angle but they photographed better this way)
